Minimum Nisab (Silver basis)
Zakat is generally due at 2.5% where zakatable wealth — cash and savings, gold and silver, and business stock — remains above ₨383,950 for one complete lunar year, after immediate debts are deducted. Personal items in normal use, such as a home or a car, are not counted. Scholars differ on the treatment of some assets, including pensions and investment property.
About Nisab
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must possess for Zakat to become obligatory. It is calculated using either the gold standard (87.48 grams = 7.5 tola) or the silver standard (612.36 grams = 52.5 tola).
The figures above convert the classical weights of 7.5 tola of gold and 52.5 tola of silver at 11.664 grams per tola, the convention used across South Asia. Some institutions state the gold nisab as 85 grams instead, working from a different weight for the classical dinar. The underlying weights are the same; only the modern gram conversion differs, so a calculation using 85 grams will produce a slightly lower gold threshold.
Both the gold and silver standards are used by scholars. The silver standard produces a lower threshold and is commonly used to include more people in the obligation of Zakat. Verify with your local scholar which standard applies in your situation.
Wealth must be held for one complete lunar year (Hawl) before Zakat becomes due.

What is Nisab?
Nisab (نصاب) is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must possess for Zakat to become obligatory. It is based on the value of gold or silver, as established in the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Because Nisab is based on the market value of gold and silver, its equivalent in local currency changes with market prices. Use the calculator above to check the current Nisab value in your currency.
