What is the Qibla?
The Qibla (القبلة) is the direction of the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah — specifically the Kaaba, the cubic structure at its centre. Every Muslim faces the Qibla during the five daily prayers (Salah). Facing the Qibla is a condition for the validity of prayer established in the Quran: "Turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you are, turn your faces toward it." (Quran 2:144).
