How prayer times are determined
The five daily prayers are tied to the position of the sun rather than to clock time, so they shift through the year and differ by location. Fajr begins at the break of dawn. Dhuhr begins once the sun has passed its highest point. Asr falls in the later afternoon. Maghrib begins at sunset. Isha begins once the evening twilight has gone.
TaqwaTools uses the authority conventionally followed in each country and names it on every city page. Times are calculated by the Aladhan API and can be adjusted per city for both calculation authority and juristic school.

How are prayer times calculated? +
Prayer times are derived from the sun's position relative to a location's latitude and longitude. Fajr and Isha depend on the angle of the sun below the horizon, and that angle differs between calculation authorities. TaqwaTools applies the authority conventionally followed in each country.
Why do prayer times differ between websites? +
Different calculation authorities use different sun angles for Fajr and Isha. For Asr, the Hanafi school marks the time when an object's shadow reaches twice its length, while the Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali schools use once its length — a difference of roughly an hour.
Which calculation method should I use? +
The one your local mosque follows. Each city page defaults to the authority used in that country and both the method and juristic school can be changed from the page itself.
